Let us introduce you to.....
Helen MacKinnon of Helen Kathleen Designs.
Helen grew up in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, but has called Corona del Mar home for the past 20 years. Helen and her husband, Tom, started their family in 2002 with the birth of their twin boys, Owen and Cole. Since that time the family have not stopped moving--involved in all areas of school and sports, and of course family!
As an elementary school teacher Helen enjoyed the creative aspects of her job, and has always had an eye for design and style...and a special love for jewelry and accessories. She says this comes from her mom, Kathleen. "My mom was a bundle of joy and love-- always the life of every party. And she was always bedazzled with all kinds of great jewelry!"
Helen's mom suffered the Alzheimer's journey, and passed away in January of 2017. Through the grieving process Helen began re-purposing many of her mom's treasures. Then, in honor of her mom, Helen Kathleen Designs was born.
Utilizing a variety of her mother's pieces, as well as new found pieces, Helen creates unique bohemian style chokers, long necklaces and charmed bracelets.
"I love the culture of Southern California, whether it is surf, or ski, bike or hike, yoga or SUP.. no matter what you are doing you can always have something special to go with what you are wearing. I like to use funky pendants, and natural stones that are true to this spirit and create combinations that are statement pieces. Either over a t-shirt, or an elegant silk top, the idea is to have that POP of something really unique and special." As my mom would say, "put a necklace on it and you're put together!"
Helen wants to thank her new Seaside family for being so welcoming and inspiring. She also wishes to thank those that have purchased from her, and to those that may...portions of your purchase go to the Alzheimer's Association. With love.
