NS Vintage Framed Aquatint
NS Vintage Framed Aquatint
Beautiful Vintage Aquatint by William Danielle, 1769 - 1837
The original hangs in the Tate Museum in England.
William Danielle's aquatint, A Voyage Round Great Britain was the most ambitious of the many topographical publications produced in England during the early nineteenth century and its plates are a highpoint in the history of aquatint engraving. The work comprised of 308 aquatints, engraved by Danielle himself and hand-colored through the agency of William Timms.
Like etching, aquatint uses the application of an acid to etch into the metal plate. Where etchings use a needle to scratch through an acid-proof resist and make lines, aquatints use powdered resin to create a tonal effect.
